I’m a little brain dead right now so what follows will be a little more scattershot than usual. Just some thoughts.

Something I’ve been thinking about since the Taylor Time profile is what I’d call a general conversation about celebrities needing to control “their narrative,” which is viewed as a bad thing, a sign of insecurity and thin skin, and so on. This conversation is centered around Taylor right now, but it’s not really “about” her. She’s just the most famous person around, she’s the center of attention, so it’s about her by default.

Still, it’s also true that Taylor is notable in her refusal to let anybody else write The Story of Taylor. Not the press, not gossip Instagrams, not Kanye West. The Time profile did really showcase this quality of hers, to the point that the journalist understands he’s being fed a storyline and decides well whatever I’ll …
