No doctor or medical professional has told me I can never drink again. When I’ve asked about it, I get variations on the statement that I can have “one drink”: one drink per day (that one is almost alarmingly generous), one drink sometimes, one drink unless it makes me feel bad.

On the other hand, any drinking after an episode of pancreatitis raises your risk of developing chronic pancreatitis. Which—knock on wood—it seems like I don’t have. And which I would really prefer never to have. So, as one of them put it, there’s only one known safe recommendation: never again.
