i will not tell how to set the games up, but i will tell you that if you change your mind, a lot of that stuff is way easier to get up and running now than it used to be.
When I first watched the ending, the final bit with the "Omedetou," it just seemed uncanny. The voices up to that point seemed like they were generally moving in a positive direction, but the final scene just looked fake, and the characters all saying the same thing felt unreal, like it was an Angel mimicking them (though in context, that's not it). It seems a little more cheerful as I'm watching it now, but that was my impression. EoE, on the hand, ends with something that is obviously reality. It's not pretty and I don't know exactly what's happening, but it's real.
Wonderful series, really enjoyed doing this. I already loved Evangelion but there was a lot to add here! And I remember vaguely liking the movie and I know literally nothing about the manga or rebuilds. I assume the manga isn't the slice of life thing mentioned here? And I do have (mostly negative) opinions about the FF7 remake games which seem, I guess spiritually similar to the rebuilds? Lots to find out!
Yeah, the manga was done by the character designer (Yoshiyuki Sadamoto) and ran sort of contemporaneously with the show and then until 2013. It diverges from the show in various ways but I think it's mostly interesting as a way of seeing how somebody else would handle basically the same material.
i started writing out my "why I hate this" thoughts pre rewatch so i would have them to compare and i hit like five hundred words in probably under twenty minutes lol. but sometimes i really do make total u-turns on things when i go back to them.
I still get choked up watching the finale. That exchange where Shinji is floating free in the undefined world, anxious and unsure: "You don't know what to do, is that it?" and Gendo says "I'll give you a constraint." There's something so paternal about that
I also like how at the end Shinji is able to see a version of his father that can smile and say "congratulations" (though he can't quite get to "clapping Gendo" lol).
lmao when I was drafting I was like "I am pretty sure I mean that the process is 'dialectical' but there's a 1% chance this will embroil me in an argument about Hegel… not worth it"
I found your writing thanks to your Eva saga. I'm fully admitting that when it was recommended to me I expected it to be terrible. Like in that /a/ meme where someone posts "Asuka or Rei?" thread and the first post says "You have been talking about it for fucking 30 years", I didn't expect there's something to add.
But I liked it very much, read all of them, some entries more than once.
I'm so looking forward for the future Lupin/GiTS/Kon/etc/etc series. Hope you'll pre-announce it so I can rewatch some of my favorite movies.

I guess there are at least six posts left for Eva (EoE + manga + four Rebuild movies). That makes me think the next series will kick off mid-September. One variable is that Angel's Egg is getting a proper physical release in the States _sometime_ this fall but it doesn't have a release date yet. Hoping they'll announce that soon.…
