I don’t remember exactly when I got my driver’s license. Maybe it was during the year I dropped out of college. What I do know is that I never drove with it. I passed my license test, but I never knew how to drive. People think that’s a joke, but it’s true. I just drove up a street and drove back down and they gave me a driver’s license.

Then I never used it—since, after all, I couldn’t really drive, and I knew it. Plus, at school, I didn’t have a car. And when I went home for the holidays and the summer we lived on a mountain, which I found myself very scared of driving up and down. Then I always just made it work without a car, even if it was difficult.
