I was all ready to apologize for not getting this out in July. I was like, I’m sorry, but it has simply been too hot to wear perfume. But here I am, and it’s still July!

Pineward is a perfume house in the Pacific Northwest, which is mostly dedicated to making you smell like a piece of the forest in the Pacific Northwest. Despite the huge amount of time I have now spent in Oregon, I have never once gone to woods, so I still have to take Pineward’s word for this.

In any case, the perfumes are interesting, but my first go around taught me one very important thing about myself: I don’t want to smell like a tree. However, I do own one full bottle of a Pineward scent—“Chandlery”—and I love it even though I’m pretty sure I’m slightly allergic to it. Life is short, it smells good, and sometimes the solution to a problem is to pop a Claritin. So sometimes they do something a little outside their wheelhouse that really works for me and I try to pay attention.

For at least the last two summers, but possibly for longer (I can’t quite tell), Pineward has released sets of prototype perfumes for people to test and evaluate. I bought the set but finished wearing them way after the window to buy it closed, so these reviews are a little useless unless one of them makes it to the big time. Here are my notes, though. (I copied the descriptions of the perfumes from Pineward’s announcement newsletter.)
