At The Nation, Emily Wilson has offered a mixed review of Anne Carson’s body of work. As far as the review itself goes… I do not have a dog in this fight. I haven’t read much Carson and what I have read is not her major work. I had the pleasure of working with Wilson once when I was still at The Hedgehog Review and found her to be a great person to work with—she agreed to write a piece for our little publication right before she blew up with her Odyssey translation and came through even in the thick of her new obligations. Many would have bailed! Possibly including me.
So I take it back. I guess I have a dog in this fight to the extent that I have a personal fondness for Emily Wilson. But she makes a move in this review that I have seen increasingly over the past couple years and I am very opposed to it, so I’m going to… complain? Yes. Complain.
