I feel like there are no songs about relationships where Taylor concedes there was no way it would have worked out. The closest I can think of is "Dear John," but even then, it's like… "it would have worked out if you weren't evil." She's always gonna be loyal to her feelings!
And in the case of a “Dear John” or a “White Horse” she empowers herself with hope/rising above it all—even if it can’t work out then with that person, it will one day!
Every time I forget and learn again that the most Stanwyck coded person to walk the earth since Barbara Stanwyck loves Barbara Stanwyck and I die a little inside (complimentary)(Her noir Stanwyck side is when she and Harry Styles or whoever ran somebody over with a car and kept driving)
“Taylor may make stupid choices, choices she will portray as stupid, but she’ll never say she has stupid feelings.”
What a brilliant encapsulation of what I think makes Taylor special.
Love this post—also the distinction between perfect and messy Taylor which is so real. Can’t wait to see where Showgirl falls on that spectrum!

that story about Barbara Stanwyck breaking all her ribs because a horse fell on her or something and showing up to work the next day… Taylor coded
"the only person who is going to run me off the road is me."
that's RIGHT
