Not making any assumptions about sound yet but I'm excited for the possibilities. Oh and Max Martin specifically asked her to keep the folklore storytelling sensibility and she was like I couldn't give that up if I tried so I don't think we need to worry about the songwriting being light on detail wrt the Red vs 1989 comparison
OK I know I’m super late to the game here but I need to say this and I am alienating all my friends by trying to talk to them about both GM and TS… I was reading an article about the album and the author was just casually like “and yeah she’s covering George Michael” and like there’s no way??? she’s covering Father Figure??? Like right???? That’s definitely an original…
But now I’m obsessed with the idea of TS having a George Michael era… She wasn’t ready for Last Christmas in 2008 but she’s ready now. Like George, Taylor can commit to the drama of a song regardless of anything else. They bring the song to their level (who would have cared about Last Christmas if it hadn’t been George singing it?). They love the drama and the drama loves them. I want a TS cover of Careless Whisper. That’s all.
Okay, this is FASCINATING to me because I am old enough that I was obsessed with this video (and supermodels in general) when it was actually airing on MTV -- although I was also queasily precocious, so not AS old as this anecdote might make me sound -- and I had never thought about this extremely true thing before. Thank you for bringing it to my brain's attention for further contemplation.
cover is gorrrgeous I love the photoshoots too… also enjoyed knowing I was one of like a million people googling "opalite" just now. a Max Martin produced song called "CANCELLED" is going to be the spiritual successor to "Bad Blood" however… I can feel that one in my bones
my only prediction so far is that Red:1989 :: TTPD:The Life of a Showgirl (after being critiqued for coming out with a sprawling 'unfocused' album she follows it up with something more 'polished')
i’m mostly in disbelief it’s going to be a 12-song album i almost specifically said in my comment that i didn’t think that was possible in the streaming economy !!
i feel like part of why it took me a long time to come around to 1989 was that it felt like she locked into this glossy impersonal pop sound and wasn't ever going to do anything else. but now after folkmore and ttpd i am more willing to trust her. in retrospect lover was also an album where she was trying a lot of things, but i didn't really notice it at the time.
I can see this but I hated 1989 so much at the time it came out that I only really became reconciled to it recently… I basically checked out of all things Taylor for years. So I hope that I don’t have that reaction again
People are hunting for previous times she's used a 'showgirl' aesthetic ("Bejeweled" music video etc) but I notice a distinct lack of anyone bringing up her role in "Cats," because we've all collectively agreed to forget that awful movie. But dancing around on a crescent moon in character shoes & a sparkly choker is VERY showgirl! Feel like there's room here for a contrarian take on how "Cats" is secretly the key to the whole era...
I would like to air a grievance here which is that during Eras it was like a running joke that somebody was going to get stuck with "Macavity" but that is not only NOT a Taylor song it is one of the only songs in Cats I like. Respect "Macavity"!!!
I feel like I want something a little yee haw, a little vaudeville, a little hit the dancefloor. I also want a song full of terrible jokes about dynamite. Those are the things that are important to me.
she would have been a total natural for podcasts back when she was still hustling for attention… probably would have liked them more than doing radio spots
I am actually seeing more callbacks to reputation than 1989 in how this album is being packaged (same photographers, ruminations on fame, internal life vs external life, new relationship album) *and* there were rumors swirling about a composer and blues session musicians working with her earlier this year https://www.tumblr.com/jessmalia/780733791661670400/httpsxcomspotifyswiftstatus1911451836894023?source=share

these are great points… turning my hype dial up

I feel like "Freedom!"—the music video—is also very Taylor in its attitude, now that you bring this up…

do we think we're gonna get a pre-release single / video……
I love the cover omg…
people on popheads don't like the cover but they didn't like the brat cover either… it's called VISION
I like all of them.... black wig is so yay

oh no it’s another pure Max Martin album she really said fuck BDM specifically 😭
i’m mostly in disbelief it’s going to be a 12-song album i almost specifically said in my comment that i didn’t think that was possible in the streaming economy !!
sorry i manifested it haha 😭

have you indulged in The Leaks? i have. and i'm happy.
No, I never do, I have more fun if I don’t!
they were true fyi
do you think we're getting a pre-album single / video? I kind of think we won't but I want one ):
idk she seems pretty into this one. lots of costumes and she's into having her butt out. i think it's possible
part 2 of the album/extended version: death of a showgirl
I predict this is her return to country.
🙏 🙏 🙏 🙏

Cats (TV)

I think what I want from this is 13 tracks of The Last Great American Dynasty
I feel like I want something a little yee haw, a little vaudeville, a little hit the dancefloor. I also want a song full of terrible jokes about dynamite. Those are the things that are important to me.
Gotta save something for Greatest Hits
people saying she doesn't do podcasts haven't seen this podcast-ass co-interview https://youtu.be/x8zfsf4azLo?si=qW7SZSlRPcyp3OWN
she would have been a total natural for podcasts back when she was still hustling for attention… probably would have liked them more than doing radio spots
A lot of Taylor fans tuned in to those Chiefs games, but making them watch a Kelce brothers podcast is a loyalty test not all will pass.
Well, I’m watching the podcast……
i'm gonna watch it but if i'm honest it's only because of my faithful tss crowd
funniest fake leak I’ve seen so far was a poorly-photoshopped version of Taylor on a Selena Gomez album cover:

she looks like a chipmunk 😭
this is so funny omg
it’s kind of giving Edith Sitwell.
